1) You have to start exploring nature with the Forest Service. They're nature at its rawest, they're nature scattered, and they're nature under the USDA (United State Department of Agriculture). But if it's nature you want, it's nature you get (in the US) with the United States Forest Service. "USDA Forest Service - Caring for the land and serving people." National headquarters web site, gateway to all Forest Service webs.

2) Next is Parks. The National Park Service is more visitor- and tourist-oriented than is the Forest Service. That's because they aren't responsible for handing out grazing permits, logging permits and carte blanche for other activities many people today see as a violation of "nature."

3) Of course, State Parks are also great places for outdoor activities. Our family spent many weekends in State Parks as my brothers and I were growing up. State Parks are often very well-developed, with restooms, running water at each campsite, and may be less expensive to get into than a National Park.

4) We are proud to announce we are member of Leave No Trace--the Center for Outdoor Ethics. You can read the Leave No Trace code of ethics and join for great hiking, camping and outdoors person benefits that reach beyond helping educate others.
